There is another way if you have sterile elastic covers… use a little bit of gel inside and then put it on top of your device.»

Q: Do PLA/PLLA threads cause more complications than PDO threads?

Dr. Abdelaziz: «Actually, no. Complications are complications… PDO should by theory dissolve faster, but in my practice, I saw complications from PDOs as much as I saw from PLA. PDOs are more common because they are cheaper and there are more on the market… You can have complications from any device you implant in tissues if you’re not sterile or not using the right disinfection.»

Q: What specific hook do you use to remove infected threads under ultrasound?

Dr. Abdelaziz: Standard surgical hooks are often too sharp and tear adjacent tissue. Dr. Abdelaziz repurposes a blunt knitting or crochet needle: «I put it out of its autoclave so you can make it sterile, and you can use it… to catch the thread under ultrasound and pull it out without making incisions.»

Q: Can ultrasound prevent nerve injuries during facial thread lifting?

Dr. Abdelaziz: While individual motor nerve twigs are difficult to visualize on ultrasound, mapping prevents injury to known danger zones. Dr. Abdelaziz notes that long-term post-procedure pain most commonly arises from hitting superficial sensory branches, such as the great auricular nerve behind the ear, causing neuralgia that can persist for 3 to 4 months. Staying in the superficial subcutaneous plane avoids deep nerve pathways.

Watch the complete webinar, clinical case discussions, and live ultrasound demonstrations at Clarius Ultrasound: Enhancing Precision and Safety in Thread Lifting.

About Dr. Ahmed Abdelaziz

Dr. Ahmed Abdelaziz is an Aesthetic plastic surgeon consultant and internationally recognized expert in body sculpting, body contouring, and facial aesthetic procedures.
