Third Trimester Deepest Vertical Pocket

An increased or decreased amount of amniotic fluid can indicate complications in pregnancy. In this video Dr. Dehaeck uses ultrasound to  locate and measure the Deepest Vertical Pocket (DVP), with the option of measuring Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI).

so we have our patient who's in the third trimester she's 36 weeks and we're going to demonstrate how to quickly do a dvp or deepest vertical pocket at the bedside with ultrasound so just confirming baby's position we know baby's head down i've established that baby's body is to the maternal right um so i'm going to have a look for the fluid pocket in the left upper quadrant here there's a nice pocket there so i'm going to freeze that and then go to my measurement tools here and measure the distance just adjust that as needed great so that's a very adequate fluid pocket so baby's fluid looks great they're able to really quickly demonstrate a normal amniotic fluid at the bedside if we wanted to do the amniotic fluid index we could also measure in all four quadrants and then calculate the afi you
