[VIDEO] Innovation Spotlight: Three Things Ultrasound Experts Like Most About the New Clarius HD3

When the first generation Clarius handheld ultrasound had its debut at the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) conference in 2016, clinicians called it game changing. They were amazed that a small, wireless device could produce high-quality ultrasound images on their iPhone.

Seven years later, the third generation Clarius HD is half the size of its original predecessor and now fits in a clinician’s pocket. Still wireless and compatible with both Apple and Android smart devices, Clarius HD3 is also getting high praise for its exceptional image quality, which rivals expensive laptop and cart-based ultrasound systems.

Prior to releasing our line of ten wireless ultrasound scanners, we asked ultrasound experts from a variety of specialties to put the Clarius HD3 through its paces. Many of them graciously agreed to provide feedback during video interviews. Scroll down to learn what they like best about our third-generation wireless handheld ultrasound scanners.

Excellent Image Quality for Every Specialty

Delivering the best image quality is our core guiding principle at Clarius. That’s because we know that clinicians rely on great ultrasound imaging to make an accurate diagnosis, treat patients with confidence, and safely guide procedures to improve patient outcomes.

The image quality’s been excellent,” says Dr. Ulrike Dehaeck who uses the Clarius C3 HD3 for her obstetrics and gynecology practice. “It’s very crisp and clean and definitely in comparison to the previous older ultrasound we were using, it’s been night and day.”

It’s the Size of an iPhone!

I would say that the new Clarius HD is almost like a traditional cart-based probe without the wire and the cart,” says Dr. Alan Hirahara, an orthopedic surgeon who has been using Clarius since 2017. “It’s almost the same size, honestly. It’s not a big difference. In fact, when I took a look at it, I put it up against my iPhone. They were the same size, literally.”

The Clarius HD3 is 30% smaller and lighter than the second generation Clarius HD. Watch the video to see what Dr. Alan Hirahara, Dr. Steven Weiner, and Dr. David Rosenblum have to say about the form factor of the new Clarius HD3.

Wireless Freedom During Procedures

Infection control is always top of mind for healthcare providers, especially in sterile prep areas. With Clarius, there are no cords to clean and disinfect. The whole scanner fits in a sterile cover and can be fully immersed in disinfectant liquid when required. Wireless freedom also means there are no cords to get in your way during procedures.

I like to do bilateral injections and switch hands in the middle of the procedure. With Clarius, I don’t have to worry about the cord being in my way,” says Dr. David Rosenblum when asked about what he values about Clarius. “Having a wireless system is incredibly helpful when performing multiple injections on the same patient or moving around the room so that you can get to the other side of the patient with ease and not have to worry about getting caught up with a cord.”
