The 4-chamber view is the most difficult view to obtain quickly. This view gives you the ability to obtain precise measurements of the heart.
hi my name is esther in this next video i'm going to be demonstrating to you how to obtain the four chamber view on an adult patient i'm going to have the indicator on the scanner towards the patient's left side and i'm looking to elongate the left ventricle and the right ventricle to their longest length and i do that by moving between the ribs until i am able to elongate both of them fully on the right hand of the screen is the left ventricle on the left hand of the screen you can see the right ventricle i'm just moving my scanner down another rib space to try to obtain the best image possible once i'm satisfied with that i'm going to use color doppler flow to look for any regurgitant jets i'm going to start with the tricuspid valve so i select the icon the mode icon and i select color doppler i press the box and i move it down to the tricuspid valve we're going to start with the mitral valve i've turned on the color doppler and you can clearly see the regurgitant jet coming through the mitral valve next i'm going to evaluate the tricuspid valve i move the box by simply placing my finger in the center and moving over to the other valve and once i obtain the tricuspid valve i can evaluate for any regurgitant jets as you can see in this patient i can clearly identify that regurgitant jet in the tricuspid valve you
