How a Nephrologist Benefits from Portable Ultrasound

Dr. Nathaniel Reisinger, a nephrologist, a clinical instructor of Emergency Medicine, and a clinical ultrasound fellow, is one of a growing number of physicians benefiting from an ultra-portable handheld ultrasound.

As demonstrated in the video below, Dr. Reisinger uses ultrasound to look at the IVC, as well as the lungs to identify ailments such as pleural effusions.

While Dr. Reisinger has access to a variety of ultrasound systems, his preference is for an ultra-portable device. He purchased a Clarius Wireless Ultrasound Scanner earlier this year and now uses it on a daily basis.

« I spend immeasurably more time with my patient when I’m scanning them, » said Dr. Reisinger.  « I talk to them and I learn the things about their history, about them personally that I would have never known. And what’s more, is the patients get engaged in their own care. »

Dr. Reisinger also likes the fact that Clarius works with his own personal device, further increasing the ability to take the ultrasound scanner with him.

“I don’t have to use some company’s proprietary tablet, and I don’t have to go out and buy an Android; I can use the device that I’m already using. I don’t have to carry around two or more. I don’t have to rely on picking up the ultrasound in the ICU or the emergency room. I carry it in my pocket, I carry it with me wherever I go.”
