hello in this video I'll show you how to measure the fetal abdominal circumference when you're doing an obstetrical ultrasound this is one of the basic biometric measurements used to assess fetal size once you've determined the position of the baby you want to obtain a nice cross-sectional image through the fetal abdomen that shows the stomach the umbilical vein and the portal sinus which is this L-shaped structure once we have all of those structures on the screen I'm going to enter into the measurements select abdominal circumference I like to start at the spine for my first cursor and then go across to the front of the abdomen this will initiate an ellipse where you can finely adjust until you get a nice circumference of the baby's abdomen and the value will be displayed in the upper left we'll take an image this stores the measurement into the report and you can proceed with the rest of the exam
