When investigating lumps and bumps, a lymph node can be readily identified by its grey somewhat homogenous architecture with well demarcated outline. A critical feature of a lymph node is having vascular flow, and in the setting of lymphadenopathy this finding is usually greatly exaggerated with significantly increased flow.
this is a scan using the linear transducer on a small parts preset in the parasagital plane of the neck here we see a complex heterogeneous structure superficial just some of the vessels in the neck and as we scan through it it appears to be well demarcated in its boundaries with the suspicion that this might be a lymph node we can add color and as we do we can see it's obviously a highly vascular structure matching some of the flow of the vessels deep below it you
