Rotator Cuff LAX

Dr. Oron Frenkel, MD

Long axis scan of rotator cuff: Normal scan has 3 layers: rotator cuff, deltoid muscle, and subcutaneous tissue. Loss of a layer as seen in this image strongly suggests complete rotator cuff tear.

Specialties: MSK
Applications: MSK
this is a scan with a linear transducer on a musculoskeletal preset in the longitudinal plane of the rotator cuff and here we have the rotator cuff and it's attached to the humeral head but what we'll notice is that there's a thinned out layer where this is the normal rotator cuff and it thins out right here just proximal to the attachment and you'll notice the loss of the layer of the rotator cuff suggestive of a full thickness rotator cuff tear above is the deltoid and here's the subcutaneous tissue and so when you don't have that third layer as you do here it's suggestive of a rotator cuff tear
