Hi everyone, my name is Dr. Zatiana Havllog. I'm an emergency physician and founder of Hello Sono. We help medical practices launch high quality and compliant focus programs. In this video, I will go over how to look for a knee fusion with ultrasounds. So, typically you want your patient to be positioned supine uh with the knee slightly bent. You can put a roll underneath the knee or you can also do it with a patient sitting down. I have already selected uh the knee application or you can also use muscularkeeletal application uh on your settings and we are going to look at the super patellar portion of the knee in the sagittal orientation. So, my probe marker is going to be pointing towards patient's head. I'm going to identify the patella, the edge of the patella, and that's where I'm going to put the bottom of my probe. So, on the right side of the screen, we are seeing the patella with a deep shadow beneath it. And the horizontal striations that we are seeing, this is actually the quadricep heaven. So, you can visualize it really well. I'm going to increase my depth a little bit so I can see the femur bone. So you you're seeing the contour of the bone at the bottom of the screen. And now I am going to fan through the area to see whether I can identify anacoic fluid in this image. So this is all called a super patellar recess and it's a potential space where um neopusion can collect. So in this case we are not seeing a neofusion good for our patient. But what I'm also noticing is what's called anotropy. So if you notice this area that's anooic on the screen. So this is actually it has to do with the way the ultrasound waves are hitting the tendon. So if I'm going to rock my probe and get it more perpendicular to the tendon, that hypocooic area just disappeared. So this is a normal property of uh tendons and nerves and um other structures that you can see with ultrasound. So just make sure you rock your probe if you see a hypoar hypoic area on attendant.
