i'm oran franklin emergency physician in patients presenting with medial or lateral knee pain a quick scan of the knee compartments can really help identify some certain causes of pathology here i'll show how to scan the medial and lateral aspects of the knee joint i'm using the l15 scanner here on a knee preset and i'll first place the scanner on the medial aspect of the joint identifying here the femur and the tibia and in the near screen is my medial collateral ligament a scan through identifies the medial meniscus where i can sweep through the entire aspect here looking for obvious tears breaks or bulging the effusion i can then repeat the same scan for patients with lateral knee pain on the lateral aspect of the knee once again identifying femur and tibia here's the lateral collateral ligament and scanning through once again i can look at the lateral meniscus trying to identify tears or fluid that isn't supposed to be there and with a quick scan i can get high degree of confidence in some of the pathologies that might be causing my patients knee pain
