i'm oran franklin emergency physician scanning the kidneys can provide useful information in patients presenting with flying pain or urinary symptoms to perform the scan here i'm going to use a c3 scanner on the abdominal preset i'll demonstrate scanning the right kidney sometimes the patient in left lateral decubitus can really help improve the imaging window i'll find that kidney sitting just below the liver here along the recess and i'll make sure to sweep through the entire parenchyma of the kidney ideally in two dimensions to really make an accurate assessment looking for any signs of hydronephrosis or structural abnormalities that might clue me into the patient's diagnosis
