Ultrasound of the Tear Trough

Dr. John Arlette

In this video Dr. Arlette demonstrates the importance of using ultrasound to image the tear trough prior to injecting filler.

Specialties: Aesthetics
Applications: Aesthetics
we'll take a look at the tear trough to give us an idea how shallow this is so we're now in our patient's tear trough I'm just going to freeze this we'll take a moment and we'll look at the distance from the surface of the skin to the tear trough which is 5.38 millimeters in this patient so a very superficial structure so if we're placing product in this area we have to be very careful and aware of what's happening and then if we also look in terms of the vasculature in this area we should be able to find the facial vein right in the medial aspect of the tear trough it goes down deeper into the mid face so medially that's where you're going to get into the facial vein you'll have less vascularity laterally so very good for you in assessing your patients before you treat this area to see where you encounter the facial vein as part of an injection in the tear trough a good way to start monitoring yourself as to where you're going to be injecting what structures you're going to anticipate so you can reduce piercing to Adverse Events like a hematoma from breaching the facial vein in its medial aspect foreign
