[VIDEO] Expecting Mom Reassured by Point-of-Care Ultrasound Exam During Office Visit

When expecting mothers experience cramping and bleeding in their first trimester, they are reassured by obstetricians like Dr. Ulrike Dehaeck, MSc, MD, FRCSC. Lisa was delighted when Dr. Ulrike was able to pull out her Clarius handheld ultrasound scanner for an immediate check-up in the office.

It was reassuring, just because in the first trimester you’re always a little bit worried … it felt really good to see the little baby moving around,” Lisa explained. “Because a lot of times in early pregnancy, for example, my midwives, they use a doppler, but they don’t have the ultrasound machine. If it’s too early, they can’t find the heartbeat. So sometimes you leave and you’re not really reassured, but at least having this bedside ultrasound, you can see your baby and you know that everything’s progressing normally.”

We had the opportunity to interview Lisa after her appointment. Watch the video to learn more about what she had to say about her experience with Dr. Dehaeck.

I liked that I could see the baby. Everything seems really high-tech as well and just easy to use and fast,” Lisa continued. And she appreciated that with Clarius Act One, Dr. Dehaeck was able to send her a video of the exam images. “I like the fact that they could just email me the videos and the pictures so I can share them with my husband.”

Dr. Dehaeck and her colleague have been using Clarius since they replaced their old cart-based ultrasound system.

Because it’s so small, I’m able to often carry it with me,” she says. “It connects really easily to the iPad or even my phone. I find that I’m just sort of just carrying it with me between visits. It’s easy to clean and then if I need it, I just can seamlessly connect and do a scan in the room. Ultrasound is now more accessible and available for all of us to use.”
