Normal pleural sliding is absent identified between the rib shadows. Corresponding M-mode shows the “bar code sign” where there is no change from superficial to deep to the pleural line, suggesting free air and lack of lung sliding. While suggestive of pneumothorax, this finding can also be been in bleb diseases or from pleural scarring.
this is a scan using the linear transducer on a lung preset and here we are in the sagittal plane in the mid thorax on this image up top you can see here's the rib shadow the dark coming down and here's the plural line and as we play it we'll see here's the bright plural line with the regular comet tail pattern of plural sliding and below we have the corresponding m mode and the sandy beach appearance where superficial to the pleura it's nice straight lines and deep to normal plural movement we see this chaotic wave-like pattern this is a scan using the linear transducer on the lung preset again in the sagittal plane on the opposite side of the normal and here we see again the superficial tissues here's the rib shadow here's the pleural line and as we play we see a structure popping in and out here that is the lung point of a normal line entering in a budding this air filled space in the thorax and the corresponding m mode pattern of this time the barcode where the lines that are above the plural line continue on into the lung because there is no pleural sliding evident any longer at the plural line you
