Quick EPSS for LV Ejection Fraction

For a quick estimate of LV ejection fraction, the mitral Valve E-Point to Septal Separation (EPSS) measurement can be performed by imaging the mitral valve in the parasternal long axis view.

hi my name is Shelly when you want to do a quick left ventricular ejection fraction estimation sometimes the eyeball method isn't that convincing or sometimes you just need to quantify that number so the way you can do that is to perform an epss measurement or EO septile separation and we do that in M mode and from the parasal long axis view so I'm using the quick cardiac setup with the phased array scanner and I'm just going to locate the mitro valve from the peristernal long axis View and we'll go into M mode and we'll place the mline over the anterior mitro leaflet until we get a nice trace on the M side and then I'm going to go into the measurement package measure the epss so from the septum to the highest point on the E point of the mitro leaflet and we get a number of 7 and 1/2 mm and then the app also calculates an ejection fraction from that so we're getting an ejection fraction of 56% so there you have it a nice quantifiable way to get a quick left ventricular ejection fraction
