Scanning the Lateral Abdominal Wall

Adrienne Sim, BHK, MPT, Grad Cert

Hi, my name is Adrian and I'm a pelvic health physiootherapist and today we're going to be looking at a transabdominal view of the lateral abdominal wall using the C3 scanner. We're going to get our client into a crook position to start here and then we're going to orient the probe so that the marker is towards the patient's left. We're going to unfreeze the image. And we're going to bring that probe down more towards the asis and come out laterally so that we can get a view of the transverse abdominis, the internal oblique, and the external oblique. And then we're going to get an idea of what the client's strategy is for their core activation. So, I'm going to get my client to activate your core however you would activate it. And we can see activation of all three muscles there. And then I'm going to get an isolated um co- contraction of the pelvic floor and the transverse abdominis. So I'm going to get my client now to just try and isolate their pelvic floor and then let that go. Great. So that wraps up the lateral abdominal wall observations.
