I'm oron Frankle an Emergency Physician the subcostal or subid view can provide sometimes critical information on cardiac activity and can sometimes be the only view you can obtain in patients given certain clinical circumstances to obtain the view this time I'm using a curval linear Probe on the cardiac preset this time making sure my indicator lines up with the indicator on the screen I'm going to put the transducer parallel to the floor here just above the umbilicus and I'm going to apply gentle pressure up towards the left shoulder going up towards the diaphragm until I see all four chambers pop into view once I do I can fan the probe up towards the ceiling down towards the floor really visualizing all four chambers in the heart primarily looking for a paracardial fusion and making a quick assessment of ventricular size and function
