Suprascapular Nerve Block

Dr. David Rosenblum, MD

This type of block is used to treat shoulder pain, requiring less cortisone or steroid than a joint injection. Dr. Rosenblum uses the Clarius L7 Linear Scanner to locate the suprascapular nerve deep to the transverse scapular ligament, and inject around the nerve while avoiding the suprascapular nerve and ensuring accurate distribution of the analgesia.

this patient suffers from shoulder pain and today we're going to do a suprascapular nerve block the purpose is to block the nerve and this block will typically require less cortisone or steroid than a joint injection this block is a nerve block that is targeting a nerve that originates from c56 the superscapular nerve leaves the supraclavicular brachial plexus to dive down below the supraspinatus muscle and wrap around to the infraspinatus muscle to innervate both of them followed by sending off articular branches to the shoulder joint there's no cutaneous innervation to this nerve and i'm going to use a 25 gauge reinforcement spinal allele to anesthetize nerve looking at the image you see the trapezius muscle under it the supraspinatus muscle and the nerve is located under the transverse scapular ligament with an artery next to it which you can see at the bottom right pulsating okay a little pinch jeff pinch doing good almost done fine then it goes right below the ligament almost done yeah i'm injecting lidocaine one percent five mls with 10 milligrams of dipole medrol foundation's over okay you did great i hope it helps you you
