though often considered a more advanced view the apical four chamber window provides another perspective of cardiac function and enables more sophisticated diagnostic calculations to perform this view again i'm using the phased array scanner on the cardiac preset and we're going to take the transducer with the indicator aiming somewhat at a 45 degree angle in the mid clavicular line imagining i'm kind of spearing through his heart in through to his right shoulder i'm going to move the transducer around until i can find a really good image of what looks like a beating heart once i'm there i'm going to try and tilt the transducer up towards his head or down towards his feet to make sure i get the maximal length of the ventricles and atria micro movements may be required to move above or below the ribs to really get a crystal clear view and once i have a good view this is where i'm going to start using color doppler measurements for getting more advanced valve and flow assessment and once i've completed my scan i can feel confident in my diagnostics of the left ventricle and the right ventricle at the bedside
