Left Kidney Ultrasound

Janaye Smith, CRGS

This is a video demonstration of how to scan the left kidney in the sagittal and transverse planes.

Applications: Abdomen, C3
hi I'm Jana and today I'm going to be showing you how to scan the left kidney today we'll be using the C3 scanner and we'll be using the abdomen preset so I like to scan with a patient in a decubitus position if possible so we'll start here on the Left Flank and I have my probe angled to align with the ribs and we want to make sure that we're seeing all parts of the kidney we'll have the patient take a nice deep breath in and hold this moves the kidney down below the diaphragm and any overlying bowel we want to scan all the way from the anterior portion of the kidney all the way back to the posterior in the sagittal plane now we're going to rotate our scanner 90 degrees to view the kidney in transverse we want to scan all the way from the upper pole of the kidney and down to the lower pole sometimes the ribs create a shadow over top of the kidney and we can try different Windows to see the lower pole versus the upper pole sometimes you need to move around to get a nice clear view of all parts of the kidney
