Marc Schmitz

In this video Marc shows patient positioning and scanning technique for assessing the talocrural joint – the joint between the distal tibia-fibula and the talus.

Specialties: MSK, Podiatry
Applications: MSK
to scan the tail cral joint the foot is uh placed on the table with a relative plant of flexion it opens the joint and then placing the transducer in longitudinal plane over the ventral aspect of the Tyler cruel joint so here we can see the tibia this is the talus and in between them this hyper coic tissue that is the uh joint capsule so we're going to observe um uh the itical irregularity or irregularity uh and especially in this zone right here you want to see if there are any osteophytes present because they can lead to an impingment if the patient do reflexes also we're going to search for fluid collections uh so if there is an infusion in the joint this might push up this uh joint capsule more towards superficial so then this would be a enoic dark region fluid and the capsule would be found somewhere around here this fluid from The Joint can also be visible uh right here so fluid collections citis capsular problems and oifits are really easy to see scan the joints not only in one place but uh Glide with the transducer from medial to lateral in order to see the uh full joint
