hi I'm Shelly and today we're going to scan a second trimester of stric model just to show you what to look for in this ultrasound so to start off I have entered my patient's name and as well you can enter some important information if you know the due date from the dating ultrasound you can enter that or if you know the LMP you can enter that as well and this is really important to establish the fetal growth make sure that things are on track for size so when I'm ready to start scanning I like to start in the sagittal plane just above the pubic bone at the cervix and this is to kind of make sure that the cervix is clear of the placenta which it is in this case now I'm just going to scan toward the fundus of the uterus and then I'm going to just sweep from right and there's the baby's head to left where we see placenta both anteriorly and posteriorly which says to me that the placenta is wrapping around the left now from this point we can rotate the scanner 90° and look at everything in a transverse plane again this helps us to identify the position of the placenta and the baby so I start low down at the bladder and then slowly scan up we're seeing some Limbs and umbilical cord and we slowly scan up and I'm still in the transverse plane we're seeing a crosssection through the baby's spine we can see some heart activity there all the way up you can see the placenta wrapping around the left side to the fundus where the head is so this baby at this point is in a breach position so with a quick sweep in the sagittal and transverse planes we've established the position of the placenta we know that it's away from the cervical o and we know that the baby is in a breach position at this point
