Specialties: Emergency Medicine, EMS, Primary Care, Rural
Applications: Abdomen
in a patient presenting with syncope hypotension abdominal pain or flank pain an abdominal aortic aneurysm can be quickly identified using the curvilinear transducer in a transverse orientation with the indicator to the patient's right i'll place it just at the level of the xiphoid process in the midline as i apply gentle pressure i can see the pre-vertebral shadow here show up very beautifully in the middle of the screen with a clear view of the aorta here right in the mid screen as i slide down now towards his feet i'm going to adjust my depth to keep that aorta right in the midline all the while watching for any signs of dilatation which i am eyeballing by the dots on the side of the screen to estimate the measurement once i slide down all the way and identify the iliac bifurcation i've completed the scan and i can feel confident there is no abdominal aortic aneurysm you
