Concentric Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH)

Oron Frenkel, MD

Thickening of the left ventricle myocardium coupled with an enlarged left atrium is highly suggestive for diastolic dysfunction, and can sometimes be seen with signs of systolic dysfunction as well.

Specialties: Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Med School, Rural
Applications: Cardiac
in this video we see the phased array scanner placed on the thorax and the parasternal long axis orientation of the heart in the cardiac setting and here we immediately see the thickened myocardium of the interventricular septum and the posterior wall of the left ventricle as well as a dilated and enlarged left atrium which by itself is already suggestive of a stiff heart with diastolic dysfunction and as we play the video we can see there's diminished opening of that mitral valve particularly the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve and decreased fractional shortening here between the walls of the ventricle suggesting there's also systolic dysfunction in this heart as well you
