Ejection Fraction

Esther Donohue B.S., RDMS, RDCS, RVT

Visual estimation can be used to gauge left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), a method subject to inter-observer variability and inaccuracy. M-mode E-point septal separation (EPSS), the minimum separation between the anterior mitral valve leaflet and the interventricular septum, offers a more objective measure of LVEF. The EPSS is easily obtained and is a quantitative predictor of systolic dysfunction.

hi my name is esther and i'm going to be demonstrating to you how to do an injection fraction using using your claria scanner i have i'm in this parasternal long axis with the indicator pointed toward the patient's right shoulder i move between the rib spaces until i can visualize the mitral valve opening at its fullest once i have obtained that view i press the mode icon at the bottom left hand side of the screen i select in mode and i take that and i put it in the at the tips of the mitral valve for the best measurement once i've obtained a good tracing of the mitral valve i'll freeze the image i go to the measurement tools in the lower left hand corner and i select eps then i'll measure from the mitral valve e wave to the septum for the ejection fraction you
