Using the Cardiac preset, left ventricular ejection fraction can be quickly estimated from the parasternal long axis view by measuring the mitral Valve E-Point to Septal Separation (EPSS).

hi my name is shelly and today i'm going to show you how to get a quick left ventricular ejection fraction estimate using the e point septal separation measurement so to do this i'm using the pa scanner in the cardiac preset i'm going to get a parasternal long axis view of the heart in particular the mitral valve i'm going to go to m mode place the line at the tips of the mitral leaflets and once i have a good m mode of the mitral valve i'm going to go to calculations epss and place the first caliper at the e point of the mitral leaflet the second caliper at the septum and we have an ejection fraction estimate of 44 so you can see a quick estimate of left ventricular ejection fraction can be done with the epss measurement
