hi everyone my name is Miles Randall I'm president of Team Air medical and a helicopter rescue paramedic with the program today we're going to talk about point of care ultrasound in the pre-hospital setting and the benefits of using a device like this incredible clarius device to help us guide our decision-making treatment plans and transport destinations one of the primary tools that we'll use is an e-fast and that's an assessment tool that we'll use to determine if there's Hemorrhage or pneumothorax in the abdomen so it's a pretty hot sunny summer's day so I'm going to use a lot of gel on this patient here [Applause] and it's paired with a device here one of the benefits of the clarius devices there's Auto Select so it's got some AI that'll allow us so right now it's set on water but as soon as it sees myocardial wall movement which we see now it's switched to cardiac which is fantastic so it's super user friendly I don't have to switch between screens or assessment tools that's done it for us here so you can see there's good myocardial wall movement I can see valve movement so now I'm just gonna take a bit of gel here so I'm just looking for there's a fairly obvious feature here let's gives us some landmarking and I'm looking for free fluid or very dark section of the abdomen there now I'm going to take a look at the lung so it's switched over to Long automatically I can see ribs and then I'm looking for a lung slide here everything's moving nicely and appropriately I don't see anything that makes me suspect that there's any more thorax which is great news and the same on this side again I can see lung I can see appropriate long slide there now we're going to see how well hydrated our patient is by taking a look at his ladder just going to push down a little bit there and we see a nice full bladder [Applause] so in the case of a trauma if we did find that that free fluid in the abdomen or we found a pneumothorax that allows us to make a an accurate and well-informed assessment of the patient that'll give us good treatment options reinflate the lung or perhaps give txa for a hemorrhage and that allows us to decide if this patient needs to be flown directly to a trauma center and it really gives us great treatment options and transport options for the patient foreign
