hi I'm Virginia Robinson and I'm a full-service family doctor in Fernie BC and we're going to go ahead and do a parasternal Long View which is a transthoracic view of the heart I'm going to use my phased array probe and I'm going to have the marker pointed towards the patient's right shoulder I'm going to start by investigating various rib spaces what we call window shopping on this very first window I have an excellent view of his heart so I can see the right ventricular outflow tract I can see the aortic outflow tract and the left atrium looking at all three of these I can see that they're equal and so the rule of thirds is maintained I can also see his left ventricle and see that it's Contracting well you get to see the aortic valve as well as the mitral valve and the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve hitting the septum this view gives me a lot of information and I tend to use it with all my cardiac patients as well as anyone who has chest pain this concludes the parasternal lung view of the heart
