hello and welcome to this case from first opinion veter ultrasound I'm Dr Camila Edwards so this case was a female nuted 8-year-old lurcher with a history of reduced appetite and weight loss following a waxing and waning respiratory symptom since June so quite a few months of of Just Waxing and waning not quite right but with some coughing and some shortness of breath so we placed the Probe on the chest and this was one of the first things we saw that there was free fluid so this anaco um substance here is free fluid and we could also see some soft tissue within the chest and particularly this was of Interest it had a hypo aoic or an anaco area with a hyper aoic structure within it um so this was right around uh grass seed season in the UK so we were worried that there may be a grass seed migrated to the chest so here's that area with that hyperic structure within it we also wanted to rule out heart disease so we've got the heart here short axis with the left ventricle there and the right ventricle wrapping round and we can see this free fluid in the chest it's not in the pericardium we can see the paric cardium close to the the heart there and we want to assess uh the heart fully um to rule out cardiac causes so here we can really see the free fluid all this anaco content is free fluid we often get these strands in plural fusion um that's quite common to see but we're also seeing these soft tissue consolid a as well here again we can see the soft tissue consolidation with this an aoic area and a hyper aoic uh section in in the middle just assessing for any flow um difficult because of the movement in the chest so again looking at this free fluid and looking at this soft tissue consolidation Fanning all the way through it to look at that anaco area and assessing the heart we've got the right side of the heart here with the right atrium here right ventricle left ventricle left atrium all looking very [Music] normal and then um again looking in the short axis at the heart so we've got the left ventricle here the classic mushroom View and the right side of the heart wrapping round and then we can see the plural Fusion all around so we found Normal Heart no signs of compromise or structural changes but there was a massive plural affusion with some soft tissue structures one of which contained a small pocket of anaco fluid measuring less than a centimeter and this fluid contained a structure potentially a grass seed and it was in the cordal chest on the right hand side so this dog was referred for potential CT scan and also flushing of the chest
