hi i'm dr camilla edwards from first opinion veterinary ultrasound and today we'll be looking at how to scan the stomach of a dog so to scan the stomach of a dog we need to place the probe just behind the zippy sternum where we'd see the liver then move the probe up the costal arch until the stomach is in central in our image it's the first gas-filled structure we'll get to we can reduce our depth so that we can see the wall of the stomach and then we can take a measurement from the lumen up to the serosal layer and if we increase our depth we can have a look at the full stomach so we fan upwards towards the fundus underneath the rib cage and then we fan ventrally towards the pylorus so we've viewed the stomach in one plane and then we can rotate the probe to get a more longitudinal view and rock underneath the rib cage to get a view of the fundus and then rock ventrally to get a view down towards the pylorus and that's how to scan the stomach of a dog
