Scanning the Distal Biceps Tendon: Lateral Approach

Marc Schmitz, MSc

In this video, Marc demonstrates both static and dynamic ultrasound imaging of the distal biceps tendon to assess tendon thickness and architecture.

third approach to scan the disle bicep sendon is to is a lateral View and with a lateral view you can see the let's say uh a bit of the last part of the disle bicep sendon but not truly the insertion and also this one we're going to see from a dynamical approach but also a static approach the patient is again uh Seated on the other side of the table and we're going to place the transducer uh um in relation to the forearm and transverse section on the forearm but this this will be become a longitudinal view on the distal bicep standon the arm is in a mid position between uh superation and uh pronation so in this mid position and then the arm is of the transducer is being placed right right there we can see the uh radial bone right here we can see the subat muscle on top we can see the extender uh muscles of uh the forearm and then we're going to se SE for the bicep standon and this is the bicep standon in longitudinal running from here all the way underneath this uh this bone so we we can see what happens underneath the bone um but we can look at this part of uh the bicep standon and if we are going to make a pro and superation you can see the uh tendon fibers moving uh back and forth meaning that if you see it moving back and thought that that would mean that and indicate that the insertion of the bicep standon is intact uh because other other otherwise it wouldn't be uh be moving so look at how thick the tendon fibers are do we see a fib pattern of the tendon fibers uh do we see any strange fluid accumulations um around the tendon or any signs of calcification or other other parts uh which should not be there u in and around uh the tendon so this is the uh lateral view on the biceps tendon
