hi I'm Virginia Robinson and I'm a full-service family doctor in Fernie BC today we're going to review the gallbladder ultrasound which can be very helpful for people experiencing right upper quadrant pain or just general abdominal pain and can be diagnosed both in the office and at the hospital I'm starting with the patient in the left lateral decubitus position and my pointer is pointing towards the patient's head with the probe in sagittal section or what we call longitudinal and then I'm just going to follow the margin of the liver and you'll see that the gallbladder pops into view looking like an exclamation mark with the gallbladder being the upper part of the exclamation mark and then you can see the portal vein being the DOT once I have the gallbladder in view I'm going to Fan through it interrogating the entire gallbladder particularly the neck of the gallbladder I'm looking for Stones which are white echogenic areas that cast Shadows in this case I see no stones I can then turn my probe in transverse and interrogate the gallbladder in a different plane once again I don't see any stones this concludes the gallbladder ultrasound foreign
