hi I'm Virginia Robinson and I'm a full-service family doctor in Fernie BC and we're going to review the kidney ultrasound the external Landmark is the xiphoid process and you make a transverse line down to the bed and that's where I place my probe in sagittal or longitudinal section you can immediately see the liver and the renal interface from here I can sweep through the kidney and I can assess whether there is dilated calycase or a dilated pelvis if I'm having trouble seeing the kidney because of a rib Shadow I can ask the patient to take a small breath and this can bring the kidney right onto my probe breathe out alternatively you can move down a rib space as I've done here and continue your sweep you want to assess the academy from all the way from anterior to posterior this concludes the kidney ultrasound exam
