How to Use Clarius Panorama for Extended Field of View Ultrasound

Shelley Guenther, CRGS, CRCS

Panoramic imaging (extended field of view) allows clinicians to capture full-length structures like long muscles and tendons, that exceed the standard footprint of a B-mode ultrasound probe. In this step-by-step tutorial, learn how Clarius Panorama stitches a single linear sweep into a seamless, high-resolution composite image right on your device.

Using any Clarius linear, in this case the L7, and the patellar tendon as a clinical example, see how to transition from live scanning to full composite visualization, annotation, and measurement.

Step-by-Step Workflow Covered:

Setup: Select your scanner (e.g., Clarius L7) and appropriate clinical preset (e.g., Knee preset).

Activation: Position the probe at the target starting point, open the Modes menu, and select Panorama.

Sweeping: Execute a smooth, steady sweep along the linear path using the live reference window as your guide.

Composite View: Press Freeze to display the stitched panoramic image.

Measurement & Storage: Add annotations, measure total structure length, and save composite scans directly to the Clarius Cloud.

Key Clinical Applications:

MSK Ultrasound: Evaluating entire muscle bellies, long tendon structures (like the patellar or Achilles tendon), soft tissue lesions, and more.

Hi. I'd like to introduce you to Clarius' Panorama. Now, panoramic imaging, or extended field of view imaging, is an advanced ultrasound feature that stitches one long linear sweep of a structure into a nice long B-mMde composite. Now, applications for this include MSK imaging because we know that muscles are quite long and we can't include them on a single B-mode image.

Abdominal ultrasound is useful for as well, or any structure that you just can't seem to fit on a regular B-mode image. Now, for example, if you're scanning the patellar tendon, we know that the patellar tendon is longer than the footprint of our scanner. Now, in this situation, I'm using the L7 scanner which is 38 millimeter footprint.

We know again that the patellar tendon is longer than 38mm. So panorama is going to allow us to extend the field of view of our scanner to include the entire patellar tendon. So let me show you how this works. So I'm using the L7 as I mentioned. And I'm going to use the knee preset here. And we can just go live.

And I'm going to position my scanner over the patellar tendon. And I'm going to start proximal. But you can also do it from the distal end and up whatever you're comfortable with. The key is you want to remember to scan the length along the length of the linear footprint. So when I've positioned my scanner and I'm ready to go, I'm going to go to the modes menu and enter into Pan and you'll see the live image on the left.

That's my reference image. And I'm going to slowly scan, watch that reference image to make sure that I'm staying on the tendon and scan all the way down to the distal end where the insertion is, and then I can hit the freeze button. And on the right side you're going to see a nice long composite image of that patellar tendon.

The other nice feature is that you can go in and perform annotations on this image as well. You can perform distance measurements. So if I want to measure the length of my tendon.

I can perform that measurement as well.

00:02:24.880 — 00:02:45.720
The camera icon is flashing. So when I save this image it's going to save the composite, the extended field of view image to the cloud along with the measurements. So Clarius has added yet another advanced ultrasound feature that we typically just see on CART based systems. So MSK imaging now the possibilities are endless.
