Handheld ultrasound gives primary care clinicians answers at the point of care. A quick scan can help you assess shortness of breath, work up abdominal pain, and look at cardiac and vascular health during the same visit, instead of waiting on an imaging referral.
The hard part is learning to read the image. Clarius now makes that easier with the release of Clarius App 13.1. T-Mode labels heart, lung, and abdominal anatomy right on the live scan, so you learn normal anatomy while you image. As your skills grow, new features like Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) and Automatic IMT extend what you can assess. Clarius keeps bringing cart-based features to handheld ultrasound, so the scanner you learn on is one you won’t outgrow. It all runs on the Clarius PAL HD3 and C3 HD3 wireless handheld scanners with a Clarius Essentials license, and every exam flows into Clarius Cloud for simple QA and digital signatures.
How does T-Mode help primary care clinicians learn ultrasound?
The biggest hurdle for new users is knowing what you’re looking at. T-Mode labels anatomy on your live scan, right beside the grayscale image, so you can learn to recognize each structure while you image. One tap on T turns it on.
The imaging really pops for learners… With T-Mode they really can learn in real time.“- Dr. Brian Johnson, Renton, WA
T-Mode Heart:
Learn to find the chambers and valves with confidence, the first step toward screening for cardiac enlargement or reduced function in patients with fatigue, dyspnea, or chest discomfort.

T-Mode Abdomen:
Tell the liver, kidney, gallbladder, and vessels apart, the foundation for working up abdominal pain at the bedside.

Expand diagnostics for primary care with advanced AI features for the whole body exam. Once grayscale feels familiar, you don’t need a new machine to do more. Clarius keeps bringing cart-based features to handheld ultrasound, simply delivered as software on the scanner you already know.

What is Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI)?
TDI measures how fast the heart muscle itself moves, not just the blood flowing through the valves. It gives you color and PW Doppler information of the heart muscle, a common application in assessing diastolic function.

What is automatic carotid IMT measurement?
Get a carotid intima-media thickness measurement without tracing borders by hand. Position a region of interest over the carotid artery wall and Clarius does the rest, giving you an accurate number to screen and follow your patients“

How does Clarius Cloud simplify patient and exam management?
Exam management should be just as easy as capturing the exam. Clarius Cloud is a simple, web-based exam management tool with unlimited storage for individual clinicians and institutions. Here’s what makes Clarius Cloud easy to use:
Track scanning progress. Dashboards show exam counts by user, exam type, and time period, an easy way to follow a learner’s path toward competency.
- Find any exam fast. Search and custom tags let you pull up exams by patient or exam type in seconds.
- Measure and annotate later. Upload first, then add measurements and annotations from the cloud when it suits your day.
- Simple QA Lite. Send exams to a reviewer in a few steps, then track exam counts by user, exam type, and time period as learners work toward competency.
- Digital signatures. When an exam is reviewed as part of the workflow, add your digital signature to lock the report before it goes to the patient record.
From a learner’s first T-Mode scan to a reviewed, signed study, everything stays in one place.

Frequently asked questions
How can primary care clinicians learn point-of-care ultrasound?
Start with normal anatomy on common exams like lung and abdomen. Clarius T-Mode labels each structure on the live image beside grayscale, so you build pattern recognition with every scan.
What is Clarius T-Mode?
T-Mode is an educational overlay that adds textured, labeled anatomy to a live ultrasound image. It is available for heart, lung, and abdomen. It is for learning only and does not identify pathology.
Which Clarius scanners work for primary care?
The PAL HD3 and C3 HD3 cover lung, abdominal, cardiac, and carotid exams. The PAL HD3 also supports Tissue Doppler Imaging and Automatic IMT.
What is included in Clarius Essentials?
Clarius Essentials includes T-Mode Heart, T-Mode Lung, T-Mode Abdomen, T-Mode Head & Neck, and Automatic IMT on supported scanners and presets.
T-Mode is for educational purposes only and is not intended for diagnostic use, interventional use, to guide injections, or for detection of foreign bodies.
