hi I'm Virginia Robinson and I'm a full-service family doctor in Fernie BC and we're going to review the lung ultrasound for bee lines this is one of the most common exams that I do in the clinic and at the hospital looking for pneumonia or signs of congestive heart failure I'm going to use my curvilinear probe and with the marker pointed towards the patient's head in longitudinal or sagittal section I'm going to proceed to interrogate the lung looking for a lines which are reverberation artifact that extend down from the pleural line or for beelines which are lines that extend from the pleural line all the way down to the bottom of the screen and kind of look like headlights this is a really important exam in Family Medicine it's one of the most common that I use looking either for congestive heart failure in which case I would see beelines bilaterally or pneumonia where I would see beelines unilaterally I continue my scan all the way to the bottom where I start to see where the lung meets the liver this is called the physiological liver lung point and you can see it on my screen here this concludes the lung exam
