CB Insights Names Clarius Mobile Health as One of 96 AI Companies Building the Next Generation of Radiology Technology

Clarius today is recognized as one of 15 point-of-care radiology companies leading the development of artificial intelligence (AI) to reshape medical imaging.

British Columbia, BC, March 31, 2023 – CB Insights today named Clarius Mobile Health amongst the top “96 AI companies building the next generation of radiology tech.” A leading provider of high-definition wireless ultrasound systems, Clarius is categorized with 14 other companies in point-of-care medical imaging that are advancing the radiology field with AI.

“Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform the radiology field,” reports CB Insights, which also projects the radiology AI market to grow to $21B by 2030. “Artificial intelligence technology is making medical imaging faster, cheaper, and higher-quality. From image enhancement software to portable ultrasounds,” the firm notes that “radiologists are using AI across their entire workflow to enhance their productivity and accuracy, while reducing administrative workload.”

AI is core to Clarius high-definition handheld ultrasound systems. It is used to optimize image quality and to deliver an intuitive experience for users who are new to ultrasound. Instead of adjusting complex knobs and buttons, the Clarius App uses AI to automate settings, enabling clinicians to accelerate their learning curve and to focus on their patients.

“Artificial intelligence is much more than a buzz phrase at Clarius,” says Nishant Uniyal, Director of Data Science at Clarius. “It’s actually a collection of machine learning algorithms, constantly working behind the scenes to augment the user experience with the Clarius app. Our objective is to bring human-centered AI to the ultrasound market and the future is full of opportunities.”

Uniyal was one of the team of scientists at Clarius to deliver the first commercially-available AI and machine learning ultrasound system that recognizes anatomy on a macro level. This allows the system to recognize different structures in the most critical part of the human anatomy to optimize imaging.

“Like the automatic mode on a modern camera that magically changes imaging modes based on the subject, Clarius detects anatomy and automatically selects the best presets for an instant window into the body,” says Uniyal. “The company used tens of thousands of ultrasound images within our vast database to train a machine learning model to achieve this exciting breakthrough. By automatically delivering the best imaging quality, clinicians get the answers they need more rapidly.”

Clarius is also working with external ultrasound innovators to unlock the power of AI for ultrasound imaging and to improve access to medical imaging for patients across all specialties. Last year, the company introduced Clarius Marketplace, a new platform that enables ultrasound innovators to bring their AI-powered software solutions to market faster by integrating with the Clarius ecosystem that includes 10 wireless ultrasound scanners, advanced Software-as-a-Service for specialists, and the Clarius Cloud exam management platform.

“Clarius is the only ultrasound company offering an open-source platform that enables easy integration with AI-powered innovations designed to streamline ultrasound training, improve workflows, speed diagnoses, and automate reporting,” says Clarius President and CEO, Ohad Arazi. “This is in addition to significant investments we’re making in research and development. Most recently, Clarius launched the first FDA-cleared AI ultrasound application for musculoskeletal imaging, which automatically identifies, highlights, and measures tendon structures in the foot, ankle, and knee. We’re grateful to CB Insights for recognizing our advancements in AI as we continue our mission to enable better patient care in every setting with medical imaging for clinicians across specialties.”
